Cooyar is a small town located approx. 90klms north of Toowoomba on the New England Highway. A close-knit community of approx 280, Cooyar residents regularly hold community based events.

The yearly country show, campdraft, and show ball are popular with locals and visitors alike. The suspension bridge is a real talking point in this town. It was rebuilt in 1988 after a devastating flood swept away the previous bridge, a local hall, three houses and several cars.
The bridge is located in Swinging Bridge Park in Cooyar, a short distance from the Cooyar Hotel.

Cooyar boasts a general store, family-friendly hotel, primary school, community hall and police station. Toilet facilities are available in the center of town. Camping is  free of charge at the Showgrounds for the duration of the Show and the Campdraft. Hot showers, food and drinks are also available.

Cooyar's yearly show, held in February, begins with a Campdraft commencing at Noon on the Friday and running through to Noon on the Saturday. While the Show on Saturday features great country show competitions, including the Young Judges and Paraders Competitions, Cattle Judging and a Ute Muster. The afternoon is topped off with Chainsaw Events, Smash-up Derby, Young Farmers' Challenge, Bull Ride and Fireworks. A great day is had by all. A two day Campdraft is held each year in October.

The Cooyar P&C Association also holds a two day Bike ride each October using the Showgrounds as a base. Riders come from far and wide. There were over 700 riders at the 2015 Bike Ride.

Cooyar boasts the tiny Palms National Park, which preserves remnant rainforest and a stand of piccabeen palms in a spring-fed gully. Muntapa Tunnel is situated a short distance from Cooyar. The disused tunnel is home to a colony of bent winged bats and is gated off during the winter months. The park boasts a barbeque area/seating and toilets with a marked walkway to the tunnel entrance. A popular privately-run motocross park, Motocross Mountain, is also situated just a few kilometres from the town center. Motocross Mountain is open most week-ends and can be contacted on 0741-639164. Camping is also available there.

The Cooyar Hotel can be contacted on 4692 6185. A barbeque is held most Wednesday nights and pizzas are available on Friday night. Drop in and have a cold drink while you wait for your pizza. Meals are also available from the menu.

The Cooyar Store is Cooyar's one stop shop for food (dine-in or takeaway), hot and cold drinks, ice-creams, fuel, gas and ice. They are open Monday-Saturday 6:30 am to 6:00 pm, Sundays and Public Holidays 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, and can be contacted on 4692 6107. Drop in and try the now famous 'Belle Burger".

For a small fee, overnight camping or longer stays are available at the Showgrounds. Please report to the on-site caretaker when you arrive. Refer to 'Camping and Facilities' for more information on this.
